At two and a half meters, this hip cloth is exceptionally long and skillfully made. The pagi (morning) section contains the kawung or yin yang motif as the background, across which ornate flowers and leaves unfurl. The sore (afternoon) section features flowers against bands of soga brown parang or keris patterns.
Considered protective to the wearer, the ends of the cloth contain the double border of gigi walang, cricket teeth, and ornate vines.
In excellent condition, the cloth has a stamp at the foot, Tjepakaputih.HMD, from a batik making area that was near the old capital of Batavia, now Jakarta.
