This hip cloth from Pekalongan in Central Java contains a wild array of skillfully crafted motifs. Against a background of ornate leaf tendrils, brightly colored bouquets of flowers bloom while birds and butterflies dance.

The traditional double border featuring the small siret strip at the edge and the floral vine above is said to protect the wearer. This glorious antique batik is in excellent condition.
