This exquisite hand drawn batik from Cirebon Java was made in the 1930’s and is being revived as part of our New Life collect as a bed throw to delight another generation or two. We have hand sewn the old batik on a newly made handspun handwoven mud dyed cloth from Java to maintain consistency of location. There are a few signs of its age and use that are lovingly hand stitched.
The motifs on a background of plant tendrils include lions, deer, crabs, squid, pumpkin leaves and fish with a rare pattern of a ship.

Hand drawn batik on cotton, natural and synthetic dyes, sewn onto handspun cotton mud dye backing. Batik from Cirebon, c.1930 and handspun backing from Tuban and mud dyed in Bali.
