Patterns used in traditional textiles are very specific in their meaning and use. The sekomandi textile used to make these cushion covers is called tosso’ balekoan, which represents a niddy noddy used for making skeins of yarn after being spun from cotton fibers into thread.

Each textile is tied, dyed and woven by a single woman from the area known as Karataun in Sulawesi. The back panel is a hearty handspun cotton woven on a backstop loom and dyed with indigo dyes.

Each cushion cover comes with an inner lining with zipper so all that is required is for you to add the Dacron and enjoy your handmade pillow.

Front panel ikat from Sulawesi using natural dyes on cotton. Back panel handspun cotton with natural dyes and woven in Java, 2023. Size 55 x 48 cm / 21.5 x 19 in
