Patterns used in traditional textiles are very specific in their meaning and use. The motif on this cushion is called tobo sepu. Tobo means carving and sepu refers to the betelnut bag carried by women that contains the lime, betelnut and sirih leaf for chewing betel. It is polite to always have betelnut offered between both the host and visitor. The tobo sepu motif is also found on the walls of the traditional rice barn. The solid rust color backing is made from handspun cotton and woven on a backstrap loom in Java.
These cushions would be exquisite on a couch, chair or bed. Each cushion cover comes with an inner lining with zipper so all that is required is for you to add the Dacron and enjoy your handmade pillow.
