This unique workshop expresses the liveliness of Bali’s tropical plants through botanical eco-printing on traditional barkcloth sourced by Cinta Bumi Artisans from their partner communities in Central Sulawesi, and on a silk scarf. Each leaf and flower brings its own shape and colour to the design experience, and its own magic to what emerges at the end of a creative journey skillfully guided by the Cinta Bumi Artisans and Threads of Life’s dye studio team.
What You Will Get
- 30 x 30 cm Mulberry barkcloth
- 30 x 200 cm silk scarf
- All workshop tools and materials are provided
- Morning transfers from Pura Dalem Puri Peliatan to Threads of Life Natural Dye Studio, and afternoon transfers back to Pura Dalem Puri Peliatan. If you are staying outside of Ubud, either arrange your own studio transfers or arrange to meet the shuttle at Pura Dalem Puri Peliatan.

09.30 – 09.45
Participants meet at Pura Dalem Puri Peliatan from where you will be driven 4 kilometres to the workshop location at the Threads of Life Dye Studio and Dye Plant Botanical Garden in Petulu, Ubud.
10.00 – 12.30
The class starts with an introduction to Threads of Life and the work of the natural dye studio, with a guided walk around the dye plant garden and an introduction to the traditional natural dyes of Indonesia.
After that the class will be led by Cinta Bumi Artisans with an introduction to barkcloth, heritage fiber from the Bada Valley, Central Sulawesi, and ecoprinting, a surface design technique where the colors and prints come from botanical matters. Participants will be guided on how to prepare and make ecoprint on a barkcloth and a silk scarf by working with local dye plants.
12.30 - 13.30
Lunch break
13.30 – 14.00
The joy of unbundling your works, and learning how to take care of your naturally-dyed pieces. After the class you will be driven from Threads of Life Dye Studio back to the Pura Dalem Puri Peliatan.

Cinta Bumi Artisans is a textile and natural dye studio based in Ubud, Bali, with a mission to guide in nourishing people’s relationship with the Earth and their inner artist through co-creation with plants, fibers, and colors.
Since they started their journey in 2013, they have been through a metamorphosis that has gradually supported them and brought them to where they are. From being a small business focused on products to a heart-centered one that integrates heritage, artisanal creations with skill-sharing, and learning experiences.
