Lou called this hand drawn batik Protection as it also plays on the black and white checkered Balinese poleng cloth. Lou’s playfulness and skilled eye captured design found in shadows, shapes found throughout the world and particularly in Indonesia.
The work of Threads of Life is to revive the natural dye process that thrived in Java for centuries as we have with natural dyed ikat in the eastern islands of Indonesia. The image included shows the brown colour saga dyeing process, to achieve the colour the desired brown, the cloth is repeated dyed.
