Sacred Marriage

Textiles in Timor used for almost all rituals they are among the principle gifts made by the bride's family during marriage rites and they function as important ritual objects in rites as varied as roof raising and rice planting ceremonies. The black mud dyes on this textile make this blanket as an excellent accent on a couch or as a bed throw.

The motif on this textile is called Oe mata refers a fresh water spring and is also affiliated with mother's milk as both are life-giving.
