Barkcloth Odyssey is Cinta Bumi Artisans’ body of work that focuses on sustaining ranta barkcloth from the Bada Valley of Central Sulawesi. Barkcloth Odyssey aims to reintroduce this ancestral heritage – which is one of the oldest clothing fibers in human history – through research, workshops, and collective creations.
Since 2015, Cinta Bumi has been working with barkcloth artisans of the Bada Valley. Started with 2 individual artisans, and they have now worked with 20+ barkcloth artisans in 4 villages. Progressing one step at a time, they now have some youths joining in, working together to revive, sustain, and celebrate this ancestral heritage of ranta.
