Patterns used in traditional textiles are very specific in their meaning and use. The sekomandi textile used to make these cushion covers is called totandung and is said to be the oldest known motif by the To Mangki weavers. It is said to mean “to celebrate our success and to be generous.

Each textile is tied, dyed and woven by a single woman from the area known as Karataun in Sulawesi. The solid coloured backing is made by the weavers from Hamba Parengu in East Sumba using the brilliant indigo dye process for which they are famous.

These cushions would be exquisite on a couch, chair or bed. Each cushion cover comes with an inner lining with zipper so all that is required is for you to add the Dacron and enjoy your handmade pillow.

Ikat on cotton with natural dyes and woven in Karataun, Sulawesi 2021. Size 52 x 46 cm / 20.5 x 18 in
