Beti Naek is a three part man’s hip cloth with a center panel made with all ikat patterning and the same motif appearing in the bands on the two side panels. This textile is worn for ceremonies and special occasions. The textiles of Miomafo area in west Timor are renown for their indigo work with intricate ikat.

The ikat motif on this textile is called ika means fish. For the people of Timor certain animals, plants, rocks, and springs are all considered sacred. Fish, crocodiles, frogs are examples of these animals. This textile is lovely as a wall hanging or used as throw on the bed or over a couch.
