Patterns of Indigenous People

Patterns used in the ikat textiles called sekomandi are very specific in their meaning and use. The sekomandi textile the was used to make these cushion covers is the niddy noddy tool to wind skeins of yarn before warping a loom.

Each textile is tied, dyed and woven by a single woman from the area known as Karataun in Sulawesi. The dominant red color is what sekomandi textiles are known for. To achieve this colour is a time-consuming process using the bark of the roots of Morinda along with other mordant plants. Indigo is collected from around the gardens to use for accents in the overall textile design. 

These cushions would be exquisite on a couch, chair or bed. Each cushion cover comes with an inner lining with zipper so all that is required is for you to add the Dacron and enjoy your handmade pillow.
