Aerial View of Australia is what Lou called this hand drawn batik on cotton. Lou’s playfulness and skilled eye captured design found in shadows, shapes found throughout the world as he traveled. The brown colour is made from soga dyes which is a mix of three different species of trees. The deep background is an overdye of indigo and the brown soga colours. The name of the cloth is written in Javanese script at the bottom of the cloth.
This piece can be hung, worn or used to set a table on. It can be washed by hand with a gentle soap and hung to dry. Textiles are meant to be lived with and be enjoyed.
