Aluk is the name for this traditional betelnut bag worn to complete ceremonial dress. This unusual and exquisite bag is made using the time consuming techniques of warp wrapping buna, supplementary patterning sotis and slit tapestry weave naisa or kelim weave.

The betelnut quid includes the piper betel leaf from the pepper plant, a slice of nut from the Arecea catechu palm and lime. It is brought when visiting another family member. The host and guests exchange betelnut before beginning any other conversation.

This stunning textile that can be worn as a small shoulder bag displays three different weave styles; sotis, buna and naisa.

Information about the makers will be supplied with each cloth.
