Contrasting light and dark sections provide the backdrop for an intriguing interplay of arrows and other shapes in this hand drawn batik.
The brown color is made from soga dyes, which is a mix of three different species of trees. The deep background is an overdye of indigo and brown soga colors. The name Lou Zeldis gave the cloth, Arrow Day-Night, is written in Javanese script at its base.
Batik hand drawn, single panel, cotton, natural and synthetic dyes. Made by Lou Zeldis in Java, 2005. Size 208 x 103 cm / 82 x 40.5 in
