Lou’s playfulness and skilled eye captured design found in shadows, shapes found throughout the world and particularly in Indonesia. Bodi Leaf is the name of this cloth which is distinctive as a wall hanging. The Bodi Tree was a large, old, sacred fig tree where the Buddha sat under when he reached enlightenment.
Lou Zeldis took traditional batik and turned it on its head while still using traditional batik artisans and the hand drawn canting technique from Central Java. Textiles are meant to be lived with and be enjoyed and this would be lovely worn or hung on a wall or even as a table decoration.
Batik hand drawn, single panel, commercial cotton, natural and synthetic dyes. Made by Lou Zeldis in Java, 2026. Size 85 x 73 cm / 33.5 x 28.5 in
