This cushion is made up of the traditional cloth using a ikat technique made by the weavers in Amarasi in West Timor. The deep red colour was achieved through multiple applications in a dye bath using the bark of the root of Morinda citrifolia after having been mordanted so that the red dye adheres to the threads.
The back panel is made using handspun cotton and is woven on a backstrap loom. It is then dyed to a deep rust using sustainably harvested Ceriops tagal bark from Papua. Threads of Life works to sustain all traditional weaving and natural dye techniques made by generations gone before while maintaining healthy eco-systems.
These handmade natural dyed cushions would be exquisite on a couch, chair or bed. Each cushion cover comes with an inner lining with zipper so all that is required is for you to add the Dacron and enjoy your handmade pillow.
