This early 20th century hand drawn batik likely from Pekalongan on the north coast of Java was made as pagi sore with two distinct patterns on each half of the cloth.
The patterns of bright red, green and gold-coloured birds with fruit and leaves with butterflies mirroring the vibrant world of nature. The exquisite quality of work is unlikely to be found today hence we give it New Life as we are calling this collection of old batiks on new fabric.
We have hand stitched the old batik onto a newly made handspun cotton traditional cloth from Java. No part of the original cloth has been lost as the patchwork on the backside contains fragments as well.
We hope you enjoy this set for many more years to come bringing the narrative of its origins to your life today.
