This elegant crepe silk scarf was dyed by the Threads of Life Natural Dye Studio using Ceriops tagal bark with a mud and tannins over-dye to achieve a rich dark chocolate. Ceriops tagal is sustainably sourced from a FSC certified mangrove forest in Papua where the local community harvests bark providing a source of revenue. The bark of this slow growing mangrove species has been used for centuries by the batik dyers of Java in the saga process to the point of over-harvesting mangrove forests on the island.
