This one-of-a-kind ikat textile is from the island of Lembata and speaks of welcome given the betelnut basket motif that runs through the entire textile. This one panel textile is locally known as a senai which is a narrow textile woven to be worn over the shoulder or around the neck by a woman to compete her traditional dress. Traditional textiles always contain elements that relate to the way of life within the culture.

The befajak betelnut basket motif is made from the lontar palm (Borassus flabellifera) and is always offered to visitors as a show of respect with the visitor offering their own basket in exchange. These exchange are ways that create important binds between social groups.
