This exquisite deep red woman's sarong with the stunning supplementary patterning will be beautiful hung on a wall or laid at the end of a bed. The supplementary motif is a habak or flower that when it is dreamed is said to contain inspiration of a life time for a weavers work. The ikat motif is called ular nangga is a mythical snake-dragon and is symbolic way that a snake can live after it sheds its skin.
A lau is worn as a tube by a Sumbanese woman and the ends of the cloth are held in place under her arm.
This textile would be lovely as a bed throw or placed on the back of a couch. It can also be worn with a belt for a special occasion.
