This early 20th century hand drawn batik likely from Pekalongan on the north coast of Java was made as pagi sore with two distinct patterns on each half of the cloth.
The patterns of bright red and gold motifs on a polka dot red background may have been worn by a young unmarried woman. The quiet green of bouquets of flowers still display indigo in the flowers and was likely on an indigo background which has aged to a green colour. The exquisite quality of work is unlikely to be found today hence we give it New Life. We have hand stitched the old batik on a newly made background of handspun cotton traditional cloth from Java.
We hope you enjoy this set for many more years to come bringing the narrative of its origins to your life today.
