A textile like this is called a beit ana and traditionally is used as a shoulder cloth by women for ceremonies and special occasions. The textiles of Miomafo area in West Timor are known for their indigo work with intricate ikat.

The motif on this textile called ika means fish. For the people of Timor certain animals, plants, rocks and springs are all considered sacred. Fish, crocodiles, frogs are examples of these animals.

This indigo dyed ikat textile works well as a table runner or can be worn as a scarf. A textile such as this would take up to 3 months to make.
