The batik work is from Tuban which is on the northern coast of Java where trade with India, Arabia and China was carried on for centuries. In Tuban weavers still collect their own cotton and spin it into thread which they weave into cloth and batik designs using a wax resist technique. The back panel is made from handspun cotton woven on a backstrap loom and dyed with indigo dyes. he motif on this batik is called kembang waluh refers a flowering pumkin.
