Patterns used in traditional textiles are very specific in their meaning and use. The sekomandi textile used to make these cushion covers is called totandung and is said to be the oldest known motif by the To Mangki weavers. It is said to mean “to celebrate our success and to be generous.

Each textile is tied, dyed and woven by a single woman from the area known as Karataun in Sulawesi. The back panel is a hearty handspun cotton woven on a backstop loom and dyed with indigo dyes.

Each cushion cover comes with an inner lining with zipper so all that is required is for you to add the Dacron and enjoy your handmade pillow.

Front panel ikat from Sulawesi using natural dyes on cotton. Back panel handspun cotton with natural dyes and woven in Java, 2023. Size 59 x 49 cm / 23 x 19.5 in
