Light rain is called gerimis in Indoneisa and is often used as a background for the classic Solo, Java batik designs. The batiks from the area of Giriloyo in Central Java are stunning in their use of dark indigo and deep soga browns. For this 2-meter textile, the artist uses a hand drawing technique to apply the wax pattern that will resist the dye. After each dye process the batik artist will re-apply wax to achieve another level of colour.
This classic batik will grace any home as a bed throw or table covering. Wrap yourself in it for a night out and watch how many comments you get!
