This cloth is locally known as a teara a man’s single panel head cloth, used for everyday and ceremonies. Women also use it as a shoulder cloth for ceremonies.

The motif on this textiles is called habak refers the Maltese-cross-like habak flower is a traditional design that would only be woven for royalty in the past. It is regarded as a powerful symbol for weavers and is said to contain all possible colors and patterns within its structure.
The bird motif in the buttom is kaka refers to the cockatoo. As cockatoos generally are seen in groups they are seen to be symbolic of community and reminds the wearer of the textile of the importance of community, harmony and tolerance.

This is a great piece to wear by a man or woman and then place it on a hanger on the wall.
