The fine batik work on this cloth was likely done in the 1920’s in Java but for the Sumatra market which sought design as this vast simple repetitive floral pattern. The centerfield is framed with running vines which are often found in batik cloths creating boundaries but implying strength. The fine thin lines at either end require a steady hand and a very fine wax canting tool to create such precise patterns reminiscent of India tumpul patterns but in Java seen as bamboo. The 18 karat gold was applied many generations later likely in the 1970s or 80s to further enhance the already precious cloth. There are a few small holes in the cloth but otherwise is in excellent condition.

Information about the makers will be supplied with each cloth.
