This extraordinary four meter pori londong is a single panel with a mix of the important ikat motifs on it. Pori means ikat and londong means long cloth. It would be used for ceremonies such as a funeral procession where the cloth would be carried above the heads of family members.

The central motif on this textile include; tosso balekoan which represents a niddy-noddy that is used for making skeins of yarn after being spun from cotton. Ulukarua refers to the eight traditional leaders who are responsible for a particular aspect of community life, such as ritual, land administration, agricultural cycles, and social relationships. Other motifs include; tonoling, the name of a compound near Rongkong to the north of the Karataun weaver group. This motif is a reminder of the importance of relationships.

This is a rare textile for its very detailed work and exquisite colour, gorgeous for wall hanging or used as throw.

Information about the makers will be supplied with each cloth.
