The Helong ethnic group of Kupang in West Timor were the original inhabitants of this area until the settlement of outsiders from Roti and Savu during the Dutch period. The remaining members resettled on the island off Kupang from Semau. This single panel shoulder scarf called Limut would be worn by women as part of traditional dress.

The ikat motif on this textile is called nian klehen. Nian klehen is a coconut leaf. The coconut tree is very important to the people of Helong as it is used not only for food but as building material. This motif appears at the edge of the textile as a boundary.

Information about the makers will be supplied with each cloth.
Warp ikat, single panel, braided fringe, commercial cotton, natural dyes. Ikat tied, dyed and woven in Kupang, Timor, 2018. Size 166 x 19 cm / 65.5 x 7.5 in
