The woman’s sarong that is used to make these cushions is known as Ei Ledo is tied, dyed and woven by a single woman from Savu. The cloth colours are very colorfast as they have been properly dyed with indigo and Morinda citrifolia. The back panel is made from handspun cotton woven on a backstrap loom and dyed with mud at the Threads of Life dye studio.
The ikat motif on these cushion is called Bunga Lehu refers to the motif that was found on old batik head scarves. Before batiks were introduced to Savu, the men wrapped their heads in white woven cloth.
These cushions would be exquisite on a couch, chair or bed. Each cushion cover comes with an inner lining with zipper so all that is required is for you to add the Dacron and enjoy your handmade pillow.
