Black and white or poleng jawa is the name that Lou Zeldis gave to this batik which he generally had written on the bottom of the textile in Javanese script. This piece will be stunning to set a table with or as a wall hanging.
Lou Zeldis took traditional batik and turned it on its head while still using traditional batik artisans and the hand drawn canting technique from Central Java. The work of Threads of Life is to revive the natural dye process that thrived in Java for centuries as we have with natural dyed ikat in the eastern islands of Indonesia.
Batik hand drawn, single panel, commercial cotton, natural and synthetic dyes. Design by Lou Zeldis and reproduced by Threads of Life with exclusive permission from the Estate of Lou Zeldis in 2022. Size 146 x 91 cm / 57.5 x 36 in
