The white floating warp patterning against the black mud dyes on this Timorese textile would be lovely as a wall hanging or table runner. The motif teke or gecko along with the frog and crocodile are all representations of the ancestor. It is said if you hear a gecko call out, it is acknowledging what was spoken is correct or true according to the ancestor. Mau ana refers to this small single panel textile and is traditionally worn as a shoulder cloth worn by women for traditional ceremonies. Textiles in this region are made using techniques of ikat, floating warp patterning called sotis or creating patterns using the time consuming warp wrap patterning called buna. Threads of Life works to sustain all traditional weaving and natural dye techniques made by generations gone before while maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Information about the makers will be supplied with each cloth.
Floating warp patterning, single panel, twisted fringe, commercial cotton, natural dyes. Dyed and woven in Amanutun, Timor, 2023. Size 198 x 32 cm / 78 x 12.5 in
