Tiga negri refers to three regions where this cloth was worked on; red from Lasem, blue Pekalongan and brown soga dye from Central Java. This exquisite batik is called a pagi sore as the central panel has two distinct sections. The lighter section has a background of sekar jagat motifs from Central Java including the ying-yang kawung and kris parang patterns. The darker sore section is a seething array of deeply coloured flowers. The protective borders siret and gigi walang cricket teeth along with the vines above these act as a protective border. Very good condition with 4 very tidy repairs using embroidery technique to blend with colour and two small holes.

Hand drawn batik on a single panel on cotton. Natural and synthetic dyes from Lasem, Pekalongan and Central Java. c.1920-1930. Size 244 x 104 cm / 96 x 41 in
