At almost two and a half meters, this cloth is exceptionally long and very finely crafted.

Tiga negeri, meaning three lands, refers to the regions that contributed dye for this type of batik: red from Lasem, blue from Pekalongan on Java’s north coast, and brown soga from Central Java.

The motifs include a glorious array of flora and fauna; flowers, birds of paradise, and what could be shrimp, ducks, or swans. The intricate borders containing gigi walang, or cricket teeth, and vines are considered protective for the wearer.

Signed by Tjoa Siang Swie, this antique batik is in excellent condition.

Hand drawn batik, single panel on European cotton cloth. Made by Tjoa Siang Swie studio in Lasem, Java with natural and synthetic dyes. c.1920-1940. Size 244 x 103 cm / 96 x 40.5 in
