Charm of Butterflies

This cushion is made up of the traditional cloth using a ikat technique made by the weavers in Amanuban in West Timor. The solid color backing is made from handspun cotton and woven on a backstrap loom in Java and dyed with mud dyes.

The motif on this cushion is called Fut nafe means butterfly, which is considered to be a symbol of the ancestors who are understood to always be there to guide and protect us. Often after funeral ceremonies, many communities take a textile to a high mountain or hill to catch a butterfly as a way to ritually reconnect with their ancestors.

These handmade natural dyed cushions would be exquisite on a couch, chair or bed. Each cushion cover comes with an inner lining with zipper so all that is required is for you to add the Dacron and enjoy your handmade pillow.
