This cushion cover is made by the weavers of Amanuban on Timor island. The solid coloured back panel of this cushion is made from handspun heirloom cotton and woven by the community of weavers in Tuban Java. It was then dyed with natural indigo using natural processes at the Threads of Life Dye Studio on Bali.
The motif on this cushion is called makai bia suna refers to a small hooked motif that is a reference to the interconnectedness of all life. The black dye comes from repeated applications using mud and plants that have a high tannin content.
