Made from a woman’s sarong created by the weavers of Ndona in Central Flores, these cushion covers feature a motif called matarote rego. Evoking the stairs to heaven, it symbolizes the tall liana plant (Entada phaseoloides), which is used by the gods to move between heaven and earth.
The solid indigo backing was made by the weavers from Hamba Perangu in East Sumba, using the brilliant indigo dye process for which they are famous.
Exquisite on a couch, chair or bed, the covers have an inner lining with zipper for easy insertion of a cushion or soft fiber.
Woven in Flores, 2019. Size 70 x 30 cm / 27.5 x 12 in
