Lurik is one of the oldest textiles known in Indonesia as it is a one of the most simple in its composition of lines of varying sizes and spacing. The compositon of this interpretation of Lurik was given to the batik artisans who drew out the design with wax to dictate where colour will be applied. There are usually two appkcation of this wax process so that the final colour results in deep indigo black with lighter brown soga complements. We use all of Lou's original names and Lurik is is what is written in Javanese script on the bottom of the textile by the batik artisan. Such a special piece deserves special details and hence the edges are all rolled and handsewn
This piece can be hung, worn or used to set a table on. It can be washed by hand with a gentle soap and hung to dry. Textiles are meant to be lived with and be enjoyed.
