One of the oldest known textiles in Indonesia, lurik is derived from the Javanese word lorek, meaning stripes. A simple but striking composition of lines of varying sizes, directions and intervals, this batik interpretation was created with two applications of wax, resulting in deep indigo black with complementary soga brown sections. For a final flourish to complete this captivating piece, the edges have been rolled and handsewn.
This piece can be hung, worn or gently draped over a table. Wash with gentle soap and hang to dry.
Batik hand drawn, single panel, cotton, natural and synthetic dyes. Made in Java, 2022. Size 244 x 103 cm / 96 x 40.5 in
