Lou Zeldis took traditional batik and turned it on its head while still using traditional batik artisans and the hand drawn canting technique from Central Java. These batiks are made using the wax resist with natural and synthetic dyes. The work of Threads of Life is to revive the natural dye process that thrived in Java. The name of this motif Lou called Zebra and had many variations of the zebra motif.
