The mesmerizing motif of this Timor textile is pasu buta, which refers to an ornate leather belt worn by a person descended from the Meo warrior caste.

In Timor, traditional textiles are vitally important objects in rituals and rites as varied as roof raising and rice planting ceremonies. They are also among the principle gifts made by the bride’s family during marriage rites.
