This extraordinary four and half meter pori londong is a single panel with a mix of the important ikat motifs on it. Pori means ikat and londong means long cloth. It would be used for ceremonies such as a funeral procession where the cloth would be carried above the heads of family members.

The central motif on this textile include; Dappu refers to the renewal of partnerships. Within the recurring pattern of the motif there are breaks to remind us that within any relationship there will be things that create disharmony and separation. We need to be aware of this potential and work to avoid conflict. Other motifs include ; lelen sepu a betelnut container and tumba-tumba refers to a spear head or sharp point. Spears, axes and other means of carving out a livelihood would often be used in the gift exchange at marriage.

This is a rare textile for its very detailed work and exquisite colour, gorgeous for wall hanging or used as throw.
