This female clan leader usif with the traditional carved necklace is of based on a high-ranking member of the Boti community. This classic Timorese statue was carved from hau matani (Pterocarpus indica) wood that is essential in building traditional houses. This wood is sustainably sourced.
This carving was done by a Meo elder who had more time to work on carving during the quiet of Covid after carrying out all the work that is required in their fields.
